In the grave encounters trailer, you obviously know that it is a sequel to a film because it is the 2nd Grave encounters. The trailer is recorded with a  hand held camera to make it feel like you are actually there. The film is based on a group of friends who are currently making a movie who hear about Grave Encounters the film and want to find out more, so in there heads they have already seen the trilling first film to the sequel, and are intrigued and in a way don't believe it all, this makes it a lot scarier for the watcher especially if you haven't see the first film. The trailer doesn't start as a typical Hollywood movie would as in have an equilibrium and then break it, it puts you straight into the deep end, straight into the scares of the film... this gives an impression that its going to be this thrilling the most part of the movie when really you know its not going to be but it gives that impression, it really makes you want too see it just because of how jumpy the trailer is.
A lot of the trailer is done as in interview with other people thoughts and views about the first film and it really just puts you in there with them and this makes the miss-en-scene different for the most part of the trailer because it isn't a typical horror because the people involved are already aware of what is going to happen they just think its a fantasy, but as soon as the signifier breaks you can see the automatic change in the sound,miss-en-scene this is just to let you know that the scares are going to come soon.
As in a lot of horror trailers the editing is especially very quick in the middle of the trailer but not actually that quick compared to a lot of the other horror movie trailers but by using a different pace in shots it makes you feel as if it isn't just a normal horror and its not going to just be a stereotypical ghost horror movie.
There is a lot of over the shoulder shots and quite a few direct shots where they look straight into the audience to connect with them, this would normally be a flaw or an mistake in a normal horror movie but in this because it is a hand held documentary in the actual movie so it makes sense that he would talk to the audience.
The sound is typically very dramatic and it builds up to what is going to happen in the trailer for example when they start to enter the house with spirits in it, the music starts to build up in pace and depth in the sound effects like really fast paced drums almost like really loud footsteps.
These are some of the codes and conventions in the technical code of a horror movie trailer.
